The first car you are going to work on will be your own. Once you get your kit, or if you are using only the long-reach tool, get to it. Just be patient. When you use your wedges, go slowly at first. Remember use your wedges UP TO THE POINT where you have just enough room to insert your tool AND NO MORE. Yes, you can damage cars. (Be careful when they are frozen!!!) Cars can take the wedges. But remember – KEEP THE OPENINGS AS THIN AS POSSIBLE! If you do this, you should have no problem. Don’t be afraid to go the local junk yard. Be sure to ask the manager if you can practice opening a few cars. Bring along a $10 gift card to and hand it to him/her, and say, “Would you let me practice opening cars if buy you lunch?” Then hand him/her the card. More than likely, he/she will start recommending you to people who are locked out! Offer him/her a finder’s fee if he/she calls you out to the junkyard to open a locked-up car for one of their customers that may have that need. You can always ask your friends for permission to open their cars as well.
You might want to check around town and find out what car openings cost people.
